Update: Pray For The Mexico Pipeline Explosion

On Friday 18 January, at least 91 people were killed in central Mexico after a ruptured gasoline pipeline exploded. According to Mexico’s Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer, at least a further 66 people suffered injuries. 

Hundreds of people near the small town of Tlahuelilpan in Hidalgo state had rushed to collect fuel from a gushing duct which authorities said was punctured by suspected thieves. Dozens were caught in the pipeline explosion that followed. Footage from the scene showed flames and smoke soaring into the night sky as people screamed for help.

Residents in the immediate vicinity of the pipeline, which runs from the cities of Tuxpan to Tula, have been evacuated. 

Compassion Mexico share that three Compassion church partners have been impacted. Tragically, we’ve heard news that one Compassion-supported young person has suffered burns and three fathers of Compassion-supported children lost their lives.
